Redecorating isn’t something that has to take days or weeks of your time and thousands of dollars. You can give your home a completely new look for just a few hundred dollars and you can do it all in one day.
New picture frames
Purchasing high quality art or photographs to display in your home can be costly and time intensive. Reframing what you already have, on the other hand, is a whole lot easier and less expensive as well. Picture frames don’t have to be dull and blend in. They can be bold and bright or uniquely shaped. A good picture frame can function as art itself. Another bold idea is to ditch the picture frames altogether. Displaying a frameless canvas really makes it stand out on the wall and it costs you nothing to toss out the frame. You can even make a little money by selling frames you’re no longer using.
Potted plants are cheap, especially if you buy them as seeds and grow them yourself. Succulents, plants that store water in stems, roots, and leaves, are especially good choices since they can go a long time between waterings and require very little effort to keep them alive. Incorporate some plant life in every room of the home. You can even hang planters in your kitchen if you really want to go all out.
The nice thing about accessories as opposed to major pieces is that they’re inexpensive and easy to swap out with the changing seasons and your changing taste in home decor. A quick trip to your favorite department store or second-hand shop is all it takes to fill up your shopping cart. Decorative pillows and throws, new floor or desk lamps, or even just new lamp shades can all transform a space for minimal investment and effort. Accessories are where you want to be more creative with color, texture, and pattern since they’re the finishing touches and won’t be too overbearing even if you go with something a little more out there.
Baseboard radiator covers
Installing baseboard radiator covers to give your baseboard heaters a new look is a lot less and expensive and a whole lot faster than trying to tear them out in favor of centralized heating. Since baseboard heaters often take up a good amount of space, a sleek new cover will make an especially big impact for not a lot of money or work.
When deciding how to spend your decorating budget, try to prioritize purchases that will take up more space visually but that aren’t expensive. A new leather sofa that reclines will make a bigger visual impact than new pillows, but it will also cost a small fortune. Some better alternatives are new window treatments for a front room or bedrooms, new shower curtains for the bathroom, and a large area rug for any space you want to put it. If you shop around and look for deals you can drastically change the look of any room in your home without spending that much money. And laying down a rug, hanging new drapes or a shower curtain only take a few minutes of your time.
